I became involved through working in assisted living communities that have a dedicated memory care neighborhood. In my work role I talk with families every day that are dealing with the memory loss of a loved one and I see how it impacts our residents and resident families as well.
My maternal grandmother who lived with my family had vascular dementia and I saw how difficult it was for my parents. And now, my sister, 47, who has Down Syndrome and lives with my parents is very repetitive in her speech and has difficulty completing simple tasks. I am concerned that she now has Alzheimer's.
