I live in a Continuing Care Retirement Community where as an Independent resident, I have daily exposure to folks aging with various degrees of dementia. It is so alarming and heartbreaking to witness the speed of decline and the number of victims affected with Alzheimer's disease under our roof. Because we are a vulnerable community, we are more aware of the need for a cure as well as better ways to help those already suffering. Our Social Action Committee's fundraiser for the Alzheimer's Association is a very important project which we are committed to annually. Most of our residents are unable to participate in the walk, but we engage as many staff member as possible to walk for those who can't. I appreciate being nominated as a Women's Champion and hope that I can be productive in my role.
