My grandmother, Aggie, suffered from Alzheimer's for close to 15 years. Watching her slip away from us was the most horrifying thing any of us could imagine. Recently, my mother was diagnosed with mild cognitive impairment in her mid-60s. Although we are taking steps to change the path upon which she is walking, our family is bracing ourselves for what appears to be the inevitable. I support the American Alzheimer's Association because we need to do more to save our loved ones from the slow goodbye. And, I owe it to my kids to do everything in my power to make sure that they do not experience what we have already witnessed.
