My dad was larger than life. He was my best friend, my rock, my hero. My dad lived his life saving people's lives as a firefighter. He was a devoted father and loved by everyone who knew him. My world was turned upside down when he was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease. My dad could light up a room with his smile and make a room full of silence come to life with his humor and storytelling. Alzheimer’s slowly took the man that I loved and adored away from me over a period of 7 agonizing years. It not only took him, it took a piece of me and my heart as I watched the brightness in his eyes dim and his smile slowly turn to a permanent frown. I suffered alongside him, it consumed me. I lost the love of my life in November 2015. He lives on in me. I have become his hero. He was a fighter as he saved lives for over 30 years as a fire fighter in Danbury. My fight continues as I want to find a cure for this devastating and heartbreaking disease.
My fire is burning strong and I will never give up my fight !
